Sept. 15th • Latin Food Night
Location & Time: Tuesday 4:30-8:00pm @ Lower, McElroy, and Stuart.
Description: Enjoy tasty Latin Food along with great music and programming provided by BC Dinning Services. Free Salsa Lessons in McElroy at 7pm.

Sept. 19th • HHM Opening Dinner Location & Time: Saturday 6pm Yawkey Center, Murray Function Rm.

Description: Keynote Speaker: Mr. Angel Martinez Loredo, accomplished multicultural affairs expert, trainer, educator, and political analyst, presents the community with a vibrant and motivating lecture that encourages the audience to become leaders and answer the societal responsibility challenge.

Sept. 22nd • ‘I Speak English': The Immigrant Experience
Location & Time: Tuesday 7:30 pm Higgins 300
Sponsored by: OLAA, Center for Human Rights and International Justice, Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, CVSA
Description: How difficult is it for immigrants to adapt? This panel of BC faculty, administrators, staff and students addresses the individual experiences of old immigrants and recent immigrants in America and attempts to compare and contrast the experiences of the variety of waves of immigrants during distinct points in history.

Sept 24th • From the Closet to the Classroom Intersections: Latino Masculine Gender and Sexuality
Location & Time: Thursday 7pm Fulton 511
Sponsored by: GLBTQ Leadership Council (GLC) and OLAA
Description: This panel will explore GLBTQ identity featuring BC faculty who specialize in gender, sexuality, and Boston College students that can speak about their personal experiences as GLBTQ Latino/as. Light refreshments will be provided.

Sept 30th • Latinos and U.S. Catholicism: Present Contributions and Future Possibilities.

Description: BC Professors Hosffman Ospino, Nancy Pineda-Madrid, and Roberto-Goizueta speak on the present and future of Hispanics in Catholism, Spanish spirituality, and U.S. Latino/Latino Theology.

Oct. 6th • Service Learning South of the Border: Boston College Service and Immersion Trips
Location & Time: Tuesday 7:30pm Higgins 300
Sponsored by: Volunteer and Service Learning Center, Pedro Arrupe Program, UGBC
Description: Faculty panel about the role that service trips play or should they play on student formation. They discuss the positive and negatives of their experiences and take a critical perspective on the way these trips can be productive and destructive. Also a part of Jesuit Heritage Week

Oct. 8th • Bilingual Education & the Minority Drop Out Rate: Myths and Realities
Location & Time: Thursday 7:30pm Higgins 300

Description: At 21 percent, the national Latino high school dropout rate is more than twice the national average at 10 percent. On a different note, thirty years after its introduction, bilingual education is still generating controversy. Learn from a panel of current high school students, teachers, college professors, and the first Latino city counselor, as they discuss the Latino Drop out rate and its affect on the future of America and bilingual education and how immigrant students are caught in the middle of this raging debate.

Oct. 13th • Latinos in Corporate America

Sponsored by: Carroll School of Management, AHANA Management Academy (AMA), and OLAA
Description: Panel discussion of the status of Latinos in the corporate environment. Latino professionals with backgrounds in consulting, law, finance, and accounting, will be present representing their firms, including Ernst & Young, Deloitte, Kaplan, Aerotek E&E, Wellington Management, Violy and Company, Goldman Sachs, Google, JP Morgan, amongst others. There will be a NETWORKING reception after the panel discussion. Free Latin food! Dress: Business Casual.

Oct. 13th • The Tapestry of American History Through Native Eyes: An Alternate Perspective
Location & Time: Higgins 300 Tuesday 7pm
Sponsored by: Arts and Social Responsibility Project, Society of Native American Peoples, OLAA, ALC, CASA.
Description:
Bobby González, Native American/Latino motivational lecturer, storyteller and poet based in New York City, steps into the world of the Indigenous Peoples who encountered Columbus and subsequent 'explorers.' The American Holocaust was a great tragedy from which all peoples can draw important lessons. Followed by a vigil.

An outdoor evening memorial service will provide an opportunity for members of the campus community and public to reflect on the genocide of millions of Native American Peoples, the theft of their lands, and the relentless assault on their culture. In addition, it is a vigil of remembrance and spiritual connection as well as a protest of the racism and oppression, which Americans Native Americans continue to experience.

Oct. 16th 1st Annual Latin Soul Arts Festival
Location & Time: O’Neil Plaza
Sponsored by: Office of Student Affairs, OASP and HHM Committee
Description:
An exploration of Latin Arts and culture at Boston College, the Latin Soul Arts Festival will explore Latin Arts through a day packed with food, kids activities, competitive and folkloric dance showcases, a band showcase, a major theater production, poetry and spoken word performances, more than six art exhibitions and demonstrations, a Hispanic book fair, prominent speakers, and a concert by our very own premier Jazz Ensemble, BC bOp!.  The festival is free and welcomes everyone including undergraduate and graduate students, BC employees and their families, alumni and the greater Boston Community.
