Residence Halls

Currently there are over 7500 students who live in the residence halls at Boston College. As representatives of the students it is imperative that UGBC take an active presence in the residence halls. This year, UGBC will be kicking off an initiative to be more present and visible within the residence halls on campus. Please take a look at some of the ideas that we have as well as some of the work that we've done so far.

Collaboration with Residential Life and Resident Assistants

Al and Alex understand the important role that Residential Life and Resident Assistants play in shaping and forming the community that we live in, and as such have made great efforts to collaborate and work with Residential Life and RA’s. So far we have:

• Created an RA page on UGBC.org to get up to date information on resources, programs and events
• Created a link to submit requests for UGBC bulletin boards which can be used in the residence halls
• Offered to work with RA’s to put on UGBC programs within the residence halls
• Offered support and planning for RA’s who wish to use UGBC events as RA programs
• Created a peer mentoring program in which Resident Directors and RA’s can refer students to be placed with a peer mentor for the semester to obtain guidance and advice from.

Additionally, we have begun working on the following initiatives:

• Placing water fountains in residence halls
  Earlier in June, Al met with Residential Life to discuss the feasibility of adding additional water fountains to the Residence Halls. Henry Humprheys, the Director of Residential Life saw the need for these water fountains and submitted a request for proposal for funding and implementation of water fountains in select residence halls on campus. Because of the budget cycles if this is approved the addition of water fountains would occur in the summer of 2010.
